EGG DONATION FAQ: HOW MUCH DO EGG DONORS MAKE & OTHER TOP QUESTIONS

Egg donors are essential to the parenthood process for some. Donating your eggs to help others build and grow their families is a truly unique gift, but the decision requires thoughtful deliberation. If you are considering egg donation, you probably have some questions. We answer some of your top egg donation FAQ below.

HOW MUCH DO EGG DONORS MAKE?

At Growing Generations, first time egg donors are compensated $10,000, while repeat egg donors are compensated at $12,000 or more. Egg donors are also eligible for many benefits and expenses related to the egg donation cycle, including:

  • Medical and psychological expenses

  • Legal Fees

  • Air Fare

  • Ground Travel

  • Meals

  • Parking

  • Lodging

  • Companion

WHAT IS THE TIME COMMITMENT FOR AN EGG DONOR?

The egg donation process is different for every donor. Two significant factors affect the timeline of the egg donation process: your menstrual cycle and how long it takes an intended parent to choose you. Overall, the entire process takes an average of 2 to 5 months to complete an egg retrieval after being matched with intended parents.

DOES DONATING EGGS HURT?

During the egg retrieval process, you will be placed under light sedation for the procedure. The entire process takes about 15 to 30 minutes to complete. The doctor will want you to spend another 2 to 3 hours at the office to monitor you and to ensure that you come out of the light sedation state before releasing you. You are encouraged to spend a day or two resting and recovering from the procedure. You can expect to feel cramping similar to menstrual cramps and to see some light blood spotting when you wipe.

CAN I STILL GET PREGNANT AFTER BEING AN EGG DONOR?

Yes, you can still get pregnant after donating your eggs. The egg retrieval process will not impact your future fertility. Most egg donors go on to have healthy pregnancies. You can learn more about a woman's typical egg supply and how egg donation affects it in our related blog post.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS INVOLVED WITH EGG DONATION?

There are minimal risks involved in egg donation. However, as with all types of medical procedures, there are some risks you need to be aware of:

Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS)

OHSS is an exaggerated hormonal response to fertility medication, causing ovaries to enlarge and hormone levels to rise. As an egg donor, you will be briefed on the symptoms of OHSS and monitored closely to reduce any chance of it happening.

Pelvic Infection

Pelvic infection can follow an egg retrieval—however it is very rare. Every effort is made to prevent this from extremely sterile conditions during egg retrieval to antibiotics given to women with higher risk of infection.

Being an egg donor is rewarding. It can change lives and give hope to those who want to embark on their journey to parenthood. It also offers the advantage of a deeper understanding of your own fertility. At Growing Generations, we are proud to work with amazing egg donors like you.
